ems COO & VP Technology, Jim Tucker, to speak at 2009 ASTM Conference on Mold: July 15, 2009
06/28/2009

Dr. Tucker will be speaking on the calculation of partial analysis of circular traces in terms of microscopic field of view (FOV) and trace diameter during the third session of the conference on Wednesday morning 7/15 at 9:20am.

THE 2009 ASTM JOHNSON CONFERENCE: Standardization of Mold Response Procedures, sponsored by ASTM Committee D22 on Air Quality, will be held July 13–15, 2009 at the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont, USA. The three-day conference is one of the ongoing series of ASTM “Johnson Conferences” and the University of Vermont venue provides an informal forum for “cutting-edge” analysis and discussion of controversial issues.

Conference emphasis will be on practical, science-based field applications. The program will focus on development of standard mold protocols considering moisture dynamics, occupant sensitivity, analytical techniques, use, misuse and interpretation of microbial testing, response options and verification. Critiques of existing guidelines, discussion of litigation methodology and new technologies will also be presented.

The Conference format will include the following four sessions:
■  HEALTH – health effects; screening procedures; causation; susceptibility
■  ASSESSMENT – building inspection techniques, moisture evaluation
■  TESTING – sampling and analytical procedures; new technologies; data interpretation
■  REMEDIATION – removal/treatment options; site control; personal protection; verification

Roundtable discussions will encourage audience participation and solicit recommendations for protocol development, prioritizing research needs and suggesting new consensus standards for development by ASTM Committee D22.

The conference will be held at the University of Vermont -- Burlington, July 13-15, 2009.
